It was the time we travelled all around Finland buying low quality steam for our test runs.

The technical specification of the rotating piston steam motor: The cylinder volume during one rotation is 1,5 times the volume of the piston. The high- and low pressure units can be connected without separate valve machinery. When the rotating piston rotates it is producing mechanical energy or pressure. The energy to make the piston rotate is not used for any other purpose as valve mechanism or similar. The moving parts consists only of the piston with its seals in the four corners. The rotating piston rotates the shaft due to the piston movement in the fixed cylinder. Four different PTO:s (Power Take Off) solutions are available, 3 of them are patented. The lubricating of the rotating piston can be done either by vegetable- or mineral oil. The support points of the piston while it rotates are placed to get maximum torque and to minimize the surface pressure in the cylinder and in the four corners of the rotating piston. This rotating piston steam motor provided with both high- and low pressure cylinders connected in serial, using the steam in many steps has a calculated efficiency of up to nearly 50%.

The inventor of the Steam Motor Mr. Auvinen has full steam pressure for a test connected to a lecture about the Villa SteamCastle last autumn for the Kuopio University.
Here you see the complete power line. At the right the piston and at the left, the flexible coupling and the bearing.
The piston is made of special aluminium and the sealings in the corners are of steel with metallic surface.
